Our Future Health: Your participation matters
Behçet’s UK is now an affiliate charity of Our Future Health, the UK’s largest health research programme, delivered in partnership with the NHS. This pioneering initiative aims to improve the prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of disease.
For people living with Behçet’s, this is one of the most important opportunities our community has had to contribute to future Behçet’s research. Every participant helps move us closer to better understanding, improved treatments and better outcomes.
Why your participation matters
Every person with Behçet’s who joins Our Future Health strengthens our voice as a rare disease community. The more people who take part, the greater our ability to:
- Encourage more research by showing there is a strong Behçet’s community ready to support new studies.
- Improve understanding of Behçet’s by combining this research with our forthcoming Patient Registry to build a clearer picture of how Behçet’s develops over time.
- Support more personalised healthcare by helping researchers understand how genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors affect people’s health.
What does taking part involve?
The programme starts with a secure online health questionnaire. It asks about:
- Basic information, including your age, sex, height, weight and ethnicity.
- Your education and employment.
- Lifestyle factors, such as exercise, screen time, social activities and alcohol consumption.
- Your family’s medical history.
- Your own health history, including diagnoses, medications and current symptoms.
You will then be invited to attend a short appointment at one of more than 500 locations across the UK. At the appointment, you will provide a small blood sample and have a few simple physical measurements taken.
