Colin Barnes (Past Chair)

Dr Colin G Barnes (BSc, MBBS, FRCP) qualified at the University of London in 1961. Now retired Colin was formerly Clinical Director for Rheumatology at The Royal London Hospital. He is Honorary Life President of the International Society for Behçet’s Disease (ISBD), past President of the European League Against Rheumatism and past Chairman of the Executive of the Arthritis and Rheumatism Council (now Arthritis Research Campaign). A member of the British Society for Rheumatology and has a special interest in clinical rheumatology and, of course, in Behçet’s.


Sue Lightman

Sue Lightman (FRCP FRCOphth PhD FMedSci) qualified at University of London in 1975.  She is now retired from her role as Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology/Consultant Ophthalmologist at Moorfield Eye Hospital. Sue has a special interest in Uveitis in adults and children, infective eye disease, ocular inflammation of all types associated with systemic disease


Reuben C S Ayres

Dr Reuben Ayres (BM, DM, FRCP) qualified at Southampton in 1982.  He is now retired from full time clinical practice, other than endoscopy.  He was formerly Consultant Gastroenterologist, who specialised in colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and Behçet’s, practicing at The Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Trust, 1 The Quadrant Exeter and the Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital.  As a Provincial Grand Charity Steward of the Devonshire Freemasons he has been instrumental in raising funds to assist a wide range of charities and other good causes both locally and nationally.  In his spare time he is a member of Lunar Plexus, a musical duo crafting original music available on Spotify, iTunes and other major musical platforms.
