But please put your health first – if you haven’t been active for a very long time, are experiencing a long term health condition, including Behçet’s, or have been advised in the past to be careful when exercising talk to a health professional before you get started to make sure it is safe to do so.

How can I complete my miles?

You can complete your miles any way you want as long as it’s under your “own steam” such as running, walking, pushing, rowing, swimming, cycling, skating, or scooting.  You can also combine more than one activity to clock up your miles.

If you are completing your miles from home you could run laps around the garden or use a rowing machine. If you are heading out into your local neighbourhood (or further afield if guidelines allow later in the year) you could use a bike, adaptive bike, roller skates, or even a canoe.

Please make sure that any equipment is in a safe condition: in good working order, including brakes, and is roadworthy – if applicable.  Always wear the recommended safety equipment and we advise that everyone on wheels wears a helmet for their own safety.

How do I track my miles?

Apps like Strava are a useful tool for tracking your miles and you can link your Strava account to your JustGiving fundraising page. Connecting Strava to your JustGiving Fundraising Page

You can also opt to manually update your miles on your JustGiving fundraising page. Upload photos from non-supported apps or plan routes using free online route planners or following a route you know well and record your miles on our print-at-home log.

Why have these beaches been chosen as the best in the UK?

We know that many people may have a favourite beach in the UK but to make it fair we chose the best beach for each UK nation, as voted for by visitors to www.thebeachguide.co.uk as of 28/01/2021. Ruislip Lido beach was chosen as one of the natural beaches in Greater London.

Can I change my challenge after I have registered?

^Top

What happens if I’m not able to complete my challenge?

Yes, definitely, although anyone under 16 will need a parent or guardian to register for them. We will only communicate via the parent or guardian regarding the event.

^Top

I’m in a wheelchair, can I still get involved?

Yes, of course. Any miles earned pushing yourself in your wheelchair or travelled using adaptive equipment will count towards your challenge goal.

Do I get a medal?

Yes. Anyone who raises over £50* will receive an official Behçet’s to the Beach medal as a special thank for taking part. These will be with you a few weeks after the challenge has ended.

Can I take part as a team?

If you would like to take on one of the challenges but can’t do it alone you are welcome to take part with friends and family, but please only do this within the latest government guidelines on coronavirus restrictions and social distancing or consider forming a virtual team.

Each person in your team should register separately to ensure you all get materials such as tops, medal and certificates.

If you have already formed a team when signing up, please ensure all team members enter your team name on their registration form.

If you decide to form a team (and possibly change your goal) after you have registered, please contact us at info@behcetsuk.org.

Please note that individual fundraising targets and commitments still apply so for example a team of four people would need to commit to raising £800 to receive a t-shirt/vest each and £200 to receive a medal each.
