Volunteer with Behçet’s UK

A wide, banner-oriented concept illustration showing a diverse group of people working collaboratively to construct a large puzzle. Figures are depicted using a ladder, a wheelbarrow, and ropes to actively place red and blue puzzle pieces into a larger structure, symbolizing teamwork and collective strategic building.

Behçet’s UK is a volunteer-powered organisation. As a small charity with two part-time staff members, the strategic guidance, passion, and unique skills of our Trustees are what drive our vital work forward.

Because Behçet’s is a rare, complex, and lifelong condition, the challenges our community faces are significant. Right now, our absolute priority is strengthening and expanding our leadership team so we can build a sustainable future for the charity. By joining our Board, your time and insights will make a direct, practical impact on how we shape support for everyone affected by the condition.

Current vacancies: Join our Board

We’re looking for new trustees to join our expanding Board, including a Deputy Treasurer.

No previous trustee or Board experience required. We will provide full training and ongoing support. We want a Board that reflects the diverse community we support, and we warmly welcome applications from anyone interested in helping us lead.

As a small charity with just two part-time staff, our trustees have an active role in shaping and supporting our work. Depending on their skills and interests, trustees may also get involved in projects, events, communications, fundraising and other areas of our work.

Who we are looking for

We want a team with a broad range of skills, experiences, and perspectives. We are particularly keen to hear from people who bring:

  • Financial experience: To join us as our new Deputy Treasurer.
  • Lived experience: Personal insight into Behçet’s or another rare disease (e.g. as a patient, family member, or carer).
  • Transferable professional or everyday skills: Experience in communications, social media, project management, or community organising.
  • Perspectives from underrepresented groups: People aged 18 to 40 and individuals from ethnically diverse backgrounds.
Why we are focusing on diversity: These groups are currently underrepresented on our Board. We want to change this because we believe a great board needs a true mix of life experiences. Bringing in younger voices and broader cultural perspectives helps us better understand the needs of everyone living with Behçet’s, sparks new ideas, more creative discussions and better decisions.
