40 Years

Logo showing the number 40 with the charity logo for Behçet's UK

Judith Buckle, a nurse, and Behçet’s patient founded Behçet’s UK, then Behçet’s Syndrome Society, with a few friends and her GP in 1983.

Over the years we have grown to become the UK’s primary Behçet’s patient support organisation and 2023 marks our 40th – Ruby – anniversary.

We can’t let our anniversary go by unmarked so we have launched a few initiatives to mark our fortieth.

40th Anniversary Fundraisers

We have launched a variety of fundraisers which will hopefully have something of interest for everyone!

Bake for Behçet’s
Get your family, friends, work colleagues and/or school/college involved. Host a bake sale, a baking competition, a coffee morning or an afternoon tea in aid of Behçet’s UK.  Help is on hand with our useful guide and some delicious recipes.

40 in 40
Run, walk or push 40 miles or 40 kilometers in 40 days.  You choose and set your own pace. If you want to run 10-miles every Saturday morning for four weeks that’s great and so is walking 1 to 2 kilometers every day or two for the full 40 days.

Life Begins at 40
Do you have a bucket list?  If so why not tick something off in aid of Behçet’s UK?  Anything goes, from a sponsored marathon or bungee jump to 2023 being the year you set up a book club, a choir or sell your handmade crafts and donate a share of subs or sales.

Share your Society Stories

Has the Society helped you in the past, did we make a difference? Have you ever taken part in a fundraiser or volunteered for the Society?  We would love to hear from you so we can share as many stories and anecdotes about the Society over the past 40 years.
