COVID-19 Trials
Should you, unfortunately, require hospital treatment you may be asked, or you could volunteer upon admission, to participate in a trial during your treatment. We recommend that you agree but it needs to be a ‘controlled trial’ backed by the NHS Health Research Authority, two of which are detailed below.
Rapid European SARS-COV-2 Emergency research Response (RECOVER): Qualitative interviews with patients and healthcare professionals.

It is critical to listen to patient views to help ensure that they receive the best possible care and advice which meets their needs. Previous studies with healthcare professionals and patients looked at their experiences after a pandemic was over which does not allow us to gain an understanding of patients’ and healthcare professionals’ needs when a pandemic situation is active. The main aim of the study is to find out patients’ and healthcare professionals’ views and experiences of seeking medical help and providing care during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Randomized, Embedded, Multifactorial, Adaptive Platform trial for Community-Acquired Pneumonia [REMAP-CAP].

The aim of this trial is to determine the best range of treatments for patients who become severely ill due to COVID-19. Patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with severe illnesses normally receive a combination of many different treatments to help them recover. For example, there are a number of different possible drugs to fight the coronavirus but patients also require treatment to help their breathing, circulation and kidneys.
