British Paediatric Surveillance Unit Study

A study of children and young people with Behçet’s disease in the UK that was funded by Behçet’s UK (then Behçet’s Syndrome Society) and Alder Hey Children’s Charity started in April 2015. Anonymous information on all possible cases in hospitals in the UK and Ireland over a 13-month period was be sent to the study team for analysis, with a follow-up questionnaire a year later.

A leaflet on the background to the study is available here: Public information leaflet Behcet’s syndrome v4 23.2.15

Study Report

The report has been published by Oxford University Press: Behçet’s syndrome in children and young people in the United Kingdom & Republic of Ireland: a prospective epidemiological study.

Webinar

On 10 May 2021, the RCPCH and BPSU presented a live webinar on the findings and the webinar is available to watch again on YouTube. Although the target audience is medical professionals, we still recommend this webinar for any parents who have children with Behçet’s.
